Youth & New Shooter Pheasant Hunt

October 25 @ 8:00 am - 1:30 pm

October 2025 — Exact date to be announced
8:00 AM at Runnings, Redwood Falls, MN

The Redwood County Pheasants Forever board is excited to bring back our annual Youth & New Hunter Pheasant Hunt. Whether you’re a young hunter eager to get started or an adult who’s new to hunting and curious to give it a try, this event is a great chance to get outside, learn from experienced hunters, and enjoy a fun day in the field.

Who Can Participate?

This event is free and open to:

  • Youth ages 12 to 17 who have a valid Minnesota Hunter Safety Certificate. No adult partner is required.

  • Youth under age 12 who don’t yet have their Hunter Safety Certificate. We’ll pair these participants with a one-on-one mentor for a guided hunt.

  • New adult hunters who want to learn and experience pheasant hunting for the first time.

If you’re curious about pheasant hunting, we’d love to have you join us.

How the Day Will Go

We’ll kick off the morning at Runnings in Redwood Falls with registration, a safety talk, and a quick overview of the day.

Participants will head out to private land (a huge thank-you to Bob Wetmore for letting us use his property) to hunt alongside our experienced board members and volunteers.

After the hunt, we’ll gather at the Redwood Sportsmen’s Club and enjoy lunch at Pizza Ranch in Redwood Falls, provided by Redwood County Pheasants Forever. Trap shooting will be available afterward for those interested, and we’ll cover all shells and shooting fees.

What to Bring

Come dressed for hunting, rain or shine.

Minnesota hunting regulations require at least one item of blaze orange above the waist, like a hat, vest, or jacket. More orange is always better for visibility.

Bring your shotgun and shells. If you don’t have gear, let us know ahead of time and we’ll do our best to help you out.

How to Sign Up

Registration is free. We’ll open registration once the date is set. All signups must be in by the Thursday before the event.

Contact to register or ask questions:

  • Ages 12 and up: Jim Thalacker at 507-530-0554

  • Under age 12: Ray Sweetman at 507-626-0422 or Bob Wetmore at 507-430-3988

We can’t wait to get back out in the field and share the excitement of pheasant hunting with a new group of youth and adults. Keep an eye out for more details soon!
