The next generation of hunters took to the field a few weekends ago as Redwood County Pheasants Forever hosted its annual Youth & New Shooter Pheasant Hunt. The event brought together local youth, new adult hunters, and dedicated volunteers for a day centered on safety, mentorship, and the joy of the outdoors.
Event Summary
On Saturday, October 25, 2025, participants gathered bright and early at Runnings in Redwood Falls to begin the day. The event was open to youth ages 12-17 with a valid Hunter’s Safety Certificate, new or inexperienced hunters 18 and older, and youth under 12 who were paired one-on-one with experienced mentors for a guided introduction to the field.
After a morning safety briefing, hunters set out to private land for a pheasant hunt led by seasoned volunteers. The experience gave participants a chance to apply safe firearm practices, learn about habitat and conservation, and enjoy the excitement of their first hunt.
Following the field portion, everyone gathered at Pizza Ranch for lunch before heading to the Redwood Sportsmen’s Club to shoot trap and sporting clays. Thanks to Redwood County Pheasants Forever, all shells and shooting fees were covered, ensuring every participant could fully take part.
Results and Thanks
This year’s hunt saw 11 young participants, one harvested bird, and about 10 volunteers who made the day a success. The event continues to highlight the importance of mentorship, conservation, and community in keeping Minnesota’s hunting traditions strong.
